bobbi+mike » a husband+wife photo team

Are you sitting down for this? Good. If not… I’ll wait…

K. Prepare yourselves to be blown away by this awesome family. No… for real… they’re kiiiind of perfect…;)Starting things off with my favorite:!:
001_BobbiMikeHFam14This session took place at Rachel’s family cabin… I don’t remember the full story but I know her parents owned it, maybe her grandparents did?, Rachel and Jared honeymooned there, and now it’s theirs. :) 002_BobbiMikeHFam14003_BobbiMikeHFam14The youngest… his name is Huckleberry… and he’s the smilingest baby I’ve ever photographed.
004_BobbiMikeHFam14I couldn’t love this more!005_BobbiMikeHFam14006_BobbiMikeHFam14If you’re a photographer… you’ve probably heard of ProPhoto Blog (my WordPress blog is designed using their template). Welllll…. Jared is the genius behind it!  Rachel suggested I take a headshot for his website… BADABOOM BADABING… nailed it!
007_BobbiMikeHFam14Ohhhh Daaaale…. you melt me!  This one was the entertainer.
008_BobbiMikeHFam14Winfield is such a smart young man. I feel like this photo perfectly captures his confident personality. But wait… let’s talk about that image of Rachel and Jared for a minute…. WHOA! I love those smiles!:D009_BobbiMikeHFam14Huck doesn’t quite know what to think of that scene… 010_BobbiMikeHFam14Harriet (on the left) was the big big helper of the group… always making sure everyone and everything were taken care of. 011_BobbiMikeHFam14…THOSE SMILES THOUGH?! AHHHH!!!!
012_BobbiMikeHFam14013_BobbiMikeHFam14Rachel recently posted this photo, circa 1999, to Facebook…. I’m pretty sure it’s from their honeymoon. So much, yet so little, has changed. Gosh I’m deep.;)014_BobbiMikeHFam14I love all of the expressions in this. 015_BobbiMikeHFam14Please hang this one at the lake house. K? K. 016_BobbiMikeHFam14017_BobbiMikeHFam14Oh wait… hang this one too.  You know what… just hang ‘em all!  Mike’s favorite:?:

How you met  ::  We met in the fall of our freshman year, 1997, when we were 18.  We spent freshman year as good friends.  Our relationship began just before I left for a semester abroad in Mexico.  We spent 7 months writing letters, with occasional access to email.  No phone.  The day that I came back we talked about getting married.  We asked our parents, they were supportive.  We got engaged in June and married in August.  You gotta snatch up the good ones quick.  We celebrated 15 years last month.  I’m seriously the luckiest girl in the world.  Anybody who knows Jared would agree!

019_BobbiMikeHFam14Favorite Mike-in-action photo everrrrr! That man is impressive! 020_BobbiMikeHFam14

Rachel and Jared… with all of the photographers that you know and work with… we could not be more flattered and honored that you asked us to photograph your family… we would LOVE to do it again!

WOW! I love all the beautiful bright colors! They look like such a fun big family! You did a great job with those kids too!ReplyCancel

I loved this day… you will too… I promise… just scroll… k? k.:)
001_bobbimike_mpw14My favorite engagement ring is always a simple solitaire. After all, that’s what I have.;)This one is a cushion cut. The wedding band was something that slid underneath to frame it… I’ve never seen anything like it…. very very cool!
002_bobbimike_mpw14003_bobbimike_mpw14And heeeeere’s Peter! His smile is just like Christian Bales’.004_bobbimike_mpw14Such beautiful bridesmaids.
005_bobbimike_mpw14006_bobbimike_mpw14Side note: a question that often comes up during the getting-ready process, “which leg does the garter go on?” Almost all things wedding go on the left… the garter, the boutonniere/corsages, the wedding rings, the bride down the aisle, etc…;)
007_bobbimike_mpw14How incredible is her dress?!  :) More about that soon…008_bobbimike_mpw14009_bobbimike_mpw14010_bobbimike_mpw14I pride myself in being a non-distraction during the ceremony. Even though the super-friendly priest gave us free reign and as close as I am to them in this moment, I can guarantee you that very few guests noticed I was there (I also really love the silent shutter option on the 5dmk3). I’ve heard horror stories about some photographers and what they do during the service. After all, one of my very good friends is a local videographer… he’s shown me footage of photographers that would make anyone cringe!
011_bobbimike_mpw14Our favorite!:!:+:?: I ADORE flower petal send offs! 012_bobbimike_mpw14013_bobbimike_mpw14Their trolly broke down right after we left the church. It was just the two of them and me in this trolly. This image was taken the moment we realized we were broken down. MIKE TO THE RESCUE! I called him and he immediately came with the Jeep to pick us up. The image above on the right was taken while we waited. :D 014_bobbimike_mpw14The image on the right was the TLC crew with “Something Borrowed, Something New”.  I think it’s supposed to air this winter some time.:D
015_bobbimike_mpw14One of our favorite local reception venues…. the Scottish Rite Cathedral.:)
016_bobbimike_mpw14SUCH a fun wedding party! 017_bobbimike_mpw14018_bobbimike_mpw14I’m kiiiind of obsessed with her bouquet.:D019_bobbimike_mpw14Gorgeous right?! See why it’s one of our faves?!020_bobbimike_mpw14021_bobbimike_mpw14I’m prettttttty sure that their champagne flutes aaaaactually had beer in them… ;) 022_bobbimike_mpw14Marcy and Peter suuuuure know how to throw one hell of a party! 024_bobbimike_mpw14HA!981_MarcyPeter_Wed_14Yep…. ZANNA DOOOOOO!!!!! My favorite reception venue with my favorite local band…. AHHHH!!!! Told you this wedding was worth scrolling for! (Marcy, please don’t judge my preposition-ended sentence;))026_bobbimike_mpw14The polish Apron dance! 027_bobbimike_mpw14028_bobbimike_mpw14AYOHHHHHH!!!!!!!029_bobbimike_mpw14Such an awesome day. Thanks for asking us to photograph it. For real. We loved every second! 030_bobbimike_mpw14

What was the most memorable moment of your day?

Marcy’s grandparents walking down the aisle together, seeing each other for the first time in church, and walking outside after the ceremony for the petal toss. It’s an unbelievable feeling to know there are so many people who love and support us (and like to throw things-petals-at us).

 Any advice for future bride/grooms?

Think about your guests throughout the planning process and enjoy every moment! The day is a whirlwind of excitement, emotions, and memories.

Funniest memory from your wedding day?

We have a couple: 1. Marcy rejecting Peter at the altar for the first kiss because the priest never said, “You may kiss the bride.” Marcy was waiting for permission!  2. A guest ripping his pants on the dance floor and owning it! He definitely rocked out the ripped pants and still maintained to bust the moves.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?

Only one thing—we would get our picture taken with Bobbi and Mike!  (I adore you both!)

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We “mini-mooned” in Chicago and will be going to Maui, HI in October.

Mike shot part of the morning with me… so here’s a rarely seen view… me shooting some of the “getting ready.” Not to worry, my expressions are just as intense during low stress times as they are during high stress times.;)I do NOT mess around! HA!

031_bobbimike_mpw14Wherrrrre’s Wallllldoooo?! 032_bobbimike_mpw14I’m clearly the lead singer of this band…;)033_bobbimike_mpw14

Much love friends!

  • KatieSeptember 9, 2014 - 2:49 pm

Ooooooooo the black and whites of their entrance to the reception and first dance!! LOVE THEM! So so gorgeous and special. What a beautiful day!ReplyCancel

  • ArendaSeptember 9, 2014 - 4:22 pm

Ha, I love that picture of the split pants! Too funny!

(PS – you mentioned ‘more about the dress later’ and then there was no follow-up . . . were you planning to include a few details about it? It’s gorgeous!)ReplyCancel

    • bobbiSeptember 9, 2014 - 4:25 pm

Hi Arenda! Did you see that I wrote that the dress will be featured on a TLC show? That’s really all I could say… I wanted to write more but we signed a non-disclosure agreement… Ohhhhh wellllll… ;) ReplyCancel

  • Erin EvangelineSeptember 9, 2014 - 4:54 pm

Ahhhh!!! Love these!! The bouquet is beautiful, and I LOVE that you rolled with the punches with the Trolly breaking down, yay Mike to the rescue!!! My fave photo, though, of all of them is the group of friends taking a selfie. I dig those fun, quirky captures!!ReplyCancel

  • JacqieSeptember 9, 2014 - 8:43 pm

You are BAD ASS with that holster. ;) I love these images! The chapel is gorgeous, and the bride is absolutely stunning. You always blow me away with your images.ReplyCancel

  • NickiSeptember 10, 2014 - 2:22 am

Gorgeous wedding! The venue, the church, all the little details, everything was beautiful. Love that bouquet too! The shot of them coming out of the church is my favorite! Awesome job!ReplyCancel

  • Megan DSeptember 10, 2014 - 11:53 am

AHHHH!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! That reception venue is to die for. Their portraits and wedding party photos are awesome. And I’m still laughing at “I’m clearly the lead singer of this band.” HAAAAA!!!! xoxoReplyCancel

  • TammySeptember 10, 2014 - 3:59 pm

These are just stunning! My favorite is definitely the send off as well! Her bouquet is just incredible and her dress is gorgeous too. You guys never disappoint!ReplyCancel

  • shannonSeptember 10, 2014 - 4:51 pm

kinda sorta totally dying over this whole entire wedding!! love the bridesmaids photos, love her dress, love the gorgeous couple…but the image that stopped me in my tracks…the one on the right where you can’t see their faces, only her smile. AMAZING!ReplyCancel

  • MarcySeptember 10, 2014 - 8:18 pm

That’s my favorite one, too! Of course, Bobbi and Mike did phenomenal work (as always!), so I love ALL of them. But my favorite part about the one that you’re referring to is that you can see my ring peeking out of my left hand. Peter always does that when he holds my hand–he always has his hand positioned around my left ring finger in the exact way the picture depicts. Love that Bobbi and Mike captured that.ReplyCancel

  • GisselleSeptember 10, 2014 - 8:45 pm

These two have style!! The color choices, the flowers, the location… GORGEOUS! And of course you guys captured the day beautifully!! That picture of the ripped pants cracked me up!!ReplyCancel

  • rachelSeptember 11, 2014 - 12:05 pm

This wedding is a RIDICULOUS amount of beautiful!!! The flowers, the dress, EVERYTHING! Amaaaaazing job on these!ReplyCancel

makes me love that picture even more now!! congratulations!ReplyCancel

  • LeslieSeptember 11, 2014 - 3:44 pm

I absolutely ADORE everything about this wedding! Makes me want to get back to the big cities where there are exceptional venues and trend-setting brides! But your blogging style is PERFECTION! It’s the perfect “voice” and makes me want to know you! I need to pick up this style a little more myself…because the “I’m clearly the lead singer of this band” comment/photo, MADE. MY. DAY.ReplyCancel

  • KarenSeptember 11, 2014 - 4:39 pm

Ok- I too share your obsession with the bride’s bouquet! It is exquisite! What pretty light you used to capture their day! of, course I am in love with the flower toss, and its a 100% chance I will attempt that at my next wedding! Fab, as alwaysReplyCancel

  • Melissa YocumSeptember 11, 2014 - 4:49 pm

The light…on both days! and the bridge, and the field of I don’t even know what, and the treat yourself wall, and the love and the way so many pics feel like they’re just enjoying a private moment. Dying over here. I wish these were MY pics. For real. Also…I’m a lot jealous of all of the redheads that come your way. Kelsey’s gorgeous!ReplyCancel

05_bobbimike_km14Our personal rules for ceremonies (when no one has approached us with any restrictions) is to stay respectful of the ceremony and to not cause a distraction. If at any moment I feel that people are paying attention to me then I cease fire.

Here I discretely snuck behind the stage and went for the ten.:D…..I’m pretty sure very few noticed that I was so close…. It does help that I’m short and wear dark clothes.:)
06_bobbimike_km14Their minister was a very kind man.:) My view. 07_bobbimike_km14Mike’s view.  :) 08_bobbimike_km14That image on the right…. it’s the moment immediately following their kiss.:)

What was the most memorable moment of your day?

Rebekah:  Walking down in the aisle!! Turning the corner and seeing everyone I love in one room (and a handsome groom at the other end of the aisle) was priceless. The whole moment probably lasted about twenty seconds, but to me, it felt infinite.

Marcus: This is pretty cliché, but the first time I saw her walking down the aisle. I don’t really know what I was expecting, but man was I blown away. She looked so beautiful and elegant.

 Any advice for future bride/grooms?

Marcus: Make sure to just have fun, the details all seem to work themselves out! Also, if your rehearsal is an absolute mess, that is good, you can get those mistakes out of the way before the real thing.

Rebekah:   Hire Bobbi + Mike. Just do it. You know you want to! And like Marcus said, don’t sweat the small stuff, especially in the planning process. Focus on preparing for a marriage instead of planning a wedding!

Funniest memory from your wedding day?

Rebekah:   Nothing makes me laugh like walking into a dressing room and seeing a life-sized Amy Poehler cardboard cut-out sitting in a chair. Let’s just say, my maid of honor knows me well! I also need to mention that Gram may have taken the cake on this question with her dance moves at the reception…

Marcus: The groomsmen, as well as some of my family, went laser-tagging in the morning. We had a pretty epic time, and it was decently competitive. Each match, when there was about 20 seconds left, it would become pandemonium as everyone rushed into the middle of the arena. A lot of good men died out there…multiple times.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?

Marcus:  I would just do it again. It was just such a fun day, and it was truly amazing to share it with our family and so many of our close friends.

Rebekah:  Agreed. I would live that day again in a heartbeat without changing a single thing!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to Canada for two weeks of hiking, exploring caves and canyons, and enjoying the gorgeous lakes in and around Banff National Park.

20_bobbimike_km14bobbi+mikeHey Mike… you’re in my shot. Hey Bobbi, you’re in my shot!  Who meee?! 23_bobbimike_km14I sure do love him.:)
24_bobbimike_km14After the bride and groom had left and we were cleaning everything up I noticed that I still had her veil in my bag… so I did what any sane photographer would do… I grabbed the maids of honor, the bride’s bouquet and I posed it up! :D I posted an iPhone pic of this shot on the back of my camera to my Instagram account captioned, “…alllllways the photographer…”:DThanks for having fun with me ladies! Rebekah, I think that this expression is one that our homie Amy Poehler would be proud of! 21_bobbimike_km14

Rebekah and Marcus, I know how much you appreciate / value art and I know how sacred / important your wedding was… asking us to photograph your wedding was something that we will forever appreciate. :) (I already said this to you in an email but it was worth sharing again).

Much love friends!
