lori+eugene

The evening before their wedding, Lori and Eugene held a traditional Korean Paebaek ceremony. For those who don’t know what that is, here’s an excerpt from Weddingbee’s Wikipedia page,

“In Korean tradition, the marriage between a man and a woman represents the joining of two families, rather than the joining of two individuals. The engaged couple will enter together dressed in ceremonial Korean wedding attire called hanbok. Their parents, the honorees, will be seated in front of a table laden with various edibles and tea (or soju – rice wine). The couple will bow deeply to the honorees, then kneel as one pours tea/soju. Once each honoree drinks the tea/soju, they impart wisdom, advice or a wish for the couple’s future.”

Finally, the honorees will throw dates (symbolizing girls) and chestnuts (symbolizing boys) which the bride and groom will try to catch in the bride’s skirt. According to legend, the number of dates and chestnuts caught signifies how many children she will bear.”

In their case, they will be having 11 kids. Six boys and five girls. It seems Lori and Eugene’s parents have good aim!…the next morning:)I loved these bridesmaids. It helps, of course, that I photographed two of their weddings:DBOOOOOM!…meanwhile…Have I mentioned lately that I love men in tuxes?! It’s a wedding photographer’s perk.;)This is usually my very favorite part. FINALLY! Husband and wife!:DLori + Eugene + their TWENTY member wedding party! Favorite:!:…all eleven of your future children are guaranteed to have perfect smiles.IU!
…the first dance comes in a VERY close second as my favorite part of the day.:DHanover’s Phi Mu Sorority. “Bye bye miss american pie….”Though Clayton was skeptical… Eugene knew EVERY word to this song. $10 iTunes gift card if you can name the tune. If you were there, you’re exempt, duh.:D(By the way, the answer isn’t “American Pie”). ::UPDATE:: Stacy M. got it right. “Friends in Low Places” –Garth Brooks.:DBy the way… remember my mentioning of Clayton Anderson in Rachael and Patrick’s blog entry? Well, he’s Lori’s brother and rocked this wedding, too:DThe difference? This time he did it wearing a pink vest;)

Here are Eugene and Lori’s families singing the last song. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.:DMike’s view. And mine:D

What was the most memorable moment of your day?
lori: The cake cutting. That song encompasses the two of us and how we feel about each other.
eugene: The first dance… It was the first time we just had time to ourselves.

What was your favorite detail?
lori: My aisle runner and my card box and my groom.
eugene: Having a childhood dream come true and having THE greatest minister Reginald K. Lisemby marry us.

Any advice for future bride/grooms?
lori: Stay focused on what’s important… Your marriage… Don’t sweat the details.
eugene: Be cool…. It always works out… And at the end of the day you get prettiest bride.,.. Well second prettiest… I got the prettiest:)

Funniest memory from your wedding day?
lori: When I tried to kiss Eugene in the middle of the ceremony.
eugene: Ditto… I kept telling myself I couldn’t kiss her too early and she came in for one and it was hilarious.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?
lori: Nothing but the weather.
eugene: Ditto… Warm day, but can I tell you how awesome our photographers were in keeping us cool. By the way… They are Bobbi and Mike!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Oh, did you not see that? Let me zoom in…:DMike busted it MAJORLY on the band’s speakers while walking backwards. Clayton, without skipping a beat, helped him up. Later that night Mike told me about how badly his butt was bruised after falling. Uhm.. what?! I went back and reviewed the photos and there it was… I captured it and didn’t even know it!:D

:!:+:?:

why…

….I’ve been a bit absent this summer.

My momba got sick in early June.

Let me start by saying that she’s doing MUCHO better now… though, it’s been quite the scary summer full of unknowns.

I got a phone call from my mom the morning of June 1st. She could barely breath, “Hey Bobbi….. just….. wanted….. you to….. know that…. I…. admitted…. myself to the…. emergency…. room at 3…..this morning.” UHM… WHAT?! You see, my family isn’t a “going to the doctor” kind of family let alone a “check yourself into the emergency room at 3am in the morning” kind of family! This was serious. I, without hesitation, headed to the hospital immediately.

I found her room, she was resting and couldn’t hear me. Seeing her in that state at the hospital was an image that I’ll carry with me forever… an image that I would rather not carry with me forever. It was awful… and had a major impact on me. I left the room and called my Aunt Karen sobbing, “I’m not sure I’m strong enough to handle this!” The thought of losing my mom…. man oh man. Awful.

As a side note, my mother was admitted to the hospital the day before Emily and Matt’s wedding… remember the outdoor/tent wedding with the funnel cloud and 90mph winds?  Yeah, that one. That should help explain why I was under the table and crying, fearing for my life. I kept saying, “I just want to see my mom…” Those were the absolute worst/most scary few days of my life.

Needless to say, I’ve been spending a lot of time both taking care of and laughing with her.:D I chose to not take on any extra sessions than I already had scheduled and I haven’t dedicated time to social media/personal blogging. So to those who follow me on Twitter or Facebook, I’m alive!

My mom has since made a complete lifestyle change and things are looking WAY up. WAY WAY WAYYYY UP! She successfully started back to work on Wednesday after being off for over three months.:D

Here’s her favorite part… her first day of college starts Monday!  We got her all registered last week. YES YES YES YES YES! She keeps saying, “I’m SO excited! SO EXCIIIIIIITED! I mean… I’m nervosa too, but I’m SO EXCITED!” By the way, in Momba language,  nervosa = nervous.

You know, regardless of her health, we’ve had more fun this summer than I think we’ve ever had, and that’s sayin’ something!:)The highlight? WE SAW PAUL McCARTNEY LIVE!!!! ….more on that later.:D

Blog posts with weddings are coming next week:)Stay tuned!

Oh and Momba, please don’t get sick again because that sucked.

I love you, BIG time!:D

rachael+patrick

What was the most memorable moment of your day?
rachael: After the  first dances, toasts, cake cutting, and the band was just starting to play, we were done with all the mandatory “wedding” activities. Patrick and I sneaked out the back and had a moment to just breathe and take it all in.  In that moment, all the anxiety melted away.  Oh, and brides, if you think you can hide from Bobbi, you are mistaken… she definately followed us out and we then had an impromptu photo session.
patrick: Learning too late that we were supposed to go straight into our first dance right away.  Neither of us knew what was going on when they started playing our song and had to back track through the crowd.  We finally realized what was going on and had a good laugh out of it.

Any advice for future bride/grooms?
rachael: Don’t make decisions in your wedding planning based on anything other than what is going to make you enjoy your day.
patrick: Buy your own tux.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?
rachael: not a thing!
patrick: I would have kissed my bride during the ceremony.  For some reason the deacon did not lead us into that.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
GREECE!  It was excellent, even if it was a bit longer than anticipated.  Patrick got an ear infection and we had to stay there an extra 6 days… DARN.

Thanks for being gorgeous:DMuch love friends!

Starting things off with my favorite:!:Ian and Matthew are really smart, really competitive and really fun. They are going to be incredibly wealthy inventors someday… mark my words.Such a fantastic family. If Mike and I have kids, we’re calling Amanda and Mike and asking for advice on how to make my kids both full of personality and really well behaved. Those are usually not two traits that go hand-in-hand. High fives friends… HIGH FIVES! By the way, from some angles Mike (dad) looks like John Lennon.:)Mike’s favorite:?:This is the photo that will be Ian and Matthew’s favorite someday. It so well represents this time in their world.:D
