joanna+ben+josh+connor+ella

Meet the Fassinger family. You’ll fall in love with them… I guarantee it!  (…said in a Men’s Wearhouse kinda tone…) :D :D :D

This family drove in from Pennsylvania just to get their family photos taken. I was feeling SO much pressure… That’s a SEVEN HOUR DRIVE! Yeah… pressure!!!!

HOWEVER… when you have a family with this much energy…. it’s easy :) Well… easy is relative… family photos are never “easy”… they’re ABSOLUTELY the most exhausting kind of sessions there are! That being said… they’re also the most rewarding ;) Can I get an amen from the photogs in the audience?! AAAAAMEN!!!!!!

Ella was so sweet and cute… oh, and hilarious, too.

Told you she was hilarious. :D Josh, how do you not have a spaz attack with your hair tickling your eyes like that?! That would DRIVE me CRAZY! I know I know… it’s the Justin Bieber look, right? Man oh man I’m getting older!

Mike’s favorite :?:

OHHHHH TO BE A KID AGAIN!!!!! Doesn’t that look fun?! Ella didn’t get the memo on the fun part thought ;)

When you’re ten years old and having to get your photo taken with your younger siblings… it’s awkward city for you! So, what do I do?! I make it even more awkward and make your kid brother hug you while you have to force yourself to look like you’re enjoying it. Nice work Josh! ;) His body language to me says, “as soon as they’re not looking, I’m going to punch you…” Which, he did… in a brotherly, not hurt you kind of way.

HELLOOOOOO HOT TAMALES!!!!!

By the end of our session… these kids were DONE! And I still needed to get ooooone more family photo taken. So, we took a break and gave them our cameras. Probably not my smartest move… but, they were in heaven! :D   This MAY have been a good idea of Joanna wasn’t a professional photographer… I’m sure that since they’ve been home…. Joanna has had to lay the law down about not touching. SORRY ABOUT THAT! However, truth be told… they were amazingly careful and respectul with them :) After they shot around for a bit… I sat them down and  took a photo. :D

HERE was that ooooone last photo that I needed. :D TOTALLY worth it!  My favorite :!:

Unless I can convince you to vacation in Maine:)

Hard work or not, you guys make family sessions look effortless. And look at you in that bottom row, middle shot that the kids took! Skinny minnie!

mae+bryan

OHHHHHHHH HOW I’VE BEEN SO RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED TO SHOW YOU THIS AMAZINGNESS!!!!!!! This was one of my favorite sessions… ever. Yeah, that’s kind of a big deal. :D Mae and Bryan are SO full of love and excitement that photographing them had me on a high for days. I know I gave a spoiler on Monday but… regardless… you’re about to see why. :D

Yes yes yes, a morning session… watching the sun come up while prancing through the fog. Does it GET any better than this?! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! My view.

Mike’s view. Oh, hi sweet couple… thanks for being awesome. :)

A side note about AM sessions… would you believe that all but two of our sessions this summer happened at sunrise?! Do we have the best clients or what?! Though… most have suggested it themselves. It’s REALLY not been a hard sell. With the crazy heat this summer… it’s been awesome. The light’s amazing, the apparent temperature (ie heat index) is usually 30° cooler (WOW TO THAT!) and… it’s check marked… you’re free to enjoy the rest of your day :D

WACKY BOBBI STRIKES AGAIN!!!! :)

HELLOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL MAE!

THENNNNNN…. it happened :D What Bryan, Mike and I had been planning for months :) :) :)

You see, back in March we received an email from Bryan. In that email he wrote,

“I have a crazy idea. My girlfriend and I are wedding photographers in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I want to get engaged. This is where you come in. We are planning on launching a brand spankin’ new website/blog later this summer and are going to need some photos of us for it. Because we know we want to get engaged ’soon’ this photoshoot would also be a good excuse to get engagement photos done.  The catch? I want to propose during the shoot, and thus she CAN NOT FIND OUT! This is going to take a lot of work but I really hope you guys are in!”

And THAT was when the planning started :D

Bryan and I were brainstorming on how we could make the actual  proposal moment completely unexpected… and here was what we came up with. :) I’d wait until the light and setting were perfect… place them about 6′ facing away from each other… when I say “go” turn around and say the first thing that comes to mind. I told Bryan that he could do this as many times as he needed to get himself prepared for the big moment. He did it twice… then BAM on the third spin he turns around slides down to one knee and with the BIGGEST most genuine smile I’ve ever seen… “will you marry me?” Mae’s reaction… “WHAT?!” She was absolutely SHOCKED! From what I gathered later… Mae is nearly impossible to surprise so the fact that he pulled this off was just awesome. I guess Bryan had been saying things like, “You know… I’m in no hurry to get married…” which completely threw her off. :D So when he popped down to one knee… she didn’t expect it… not even 1%!

So, he asked her again… “Will you marry me?” Mae walked closer… too shocked for words. Her body language was full of excitement and screaming YES YES YES!!!! Still… too shocked for words.

THENNNN…. “yes…”

“…yes, YES, YESSSS!!!!! I WILL MARRY YOU!!!!”

It was perfect in every way… EVERY way!!!!!! Bryan, you get SO many bonus points for this move. One of the best engagement stories I’ve heard. :D Photographers getting their ACTUAL engagement photographed?! Bryan, this was absolutely PERFECT! Man oh man… now I’m full of chills…

Then it was time to continue the session. MAN OH MAN my heart was still racing! When I sat them down in this field I could finally let out my excitement…. “YOU’RE GETTING MARRRRRRIED!!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!” Here was her response :)

Then an outfit change and a quick drive where we found this :D My view.

Mike’s.

SO badass! :)

“Uhmmmm… so…. these white tubie things…. uhmmm… think you could get inside?” Though it was a weeee bit difficult getting in… look how cool the shot is. :) I’m kind of in love with it…

Something about this reminds me of John and Yoko…

Then one more outfit change. :) Our last location was a book store. When we first arrived it was closed… so we walked around it and found some fun little spots. Here’s another bobbi’s photo vs mike’s… Here’s my view.

…and Mike’s. :D

“in every season… believe”

I love how much you love her.

These two love to read. Mae is actually a creative writing major at Grand Valley State University… so this was THE most perfect spot to finish the session. As a matter of fact… Mae was kind of in heaven… she became so immersed in the books that she nearly forgot she was getting her photo taken. “Mae… focus!” She was SO dang cute.

HOT TAMALES!

Nothing wrong with a little snuggling in the aisles, right?! PS. fluorescent lights rock my world. JUSSSSST kidding!

I love love love this… it’s particularly special to me because my boyfriend did the same thing to me July 17th!! We are photographers as well. We got all dressed up to go to the opera, and because I don’t get him in a tux very often, I hired a photographer to take some pictures of us. He knew how much the pictures would mean to me and proposed on the street in Central City, CO. I cried the ugly cry, and while usually that would be horrible, I didn’t mind it this time! ;)

Here’s one of my favorites… http://bit.ly/aP2vGR

Congratulations to Bryan and Mae, he did an awesome job, those are pictures she will treasure, ESPECIALLY as a photographer!

kate+eric

Kate’s hair reminds me of my Aunt Karen’s… and I love my Aunt Karen… so by default… I love Kate. If A = B and B = C then A must = C too, right? Man oh man, I’ve confused myself and it’s only my first sentence….

This car has been sitting abandoned… in the same spot for at least 3 years… so, what the hell… let’s get on it!

What famous person does Eric look like? To me, it’s 100000% obvious…

We stopped into a bar and had a quick drink :) Strike that… they had a quick drink while we watched and drooled.

Love this. :)

The Marion County Fair happened to be going on that week so we took full advantage after the sun went down.

I teased this image on our Facebook page…. and some of you had questions. 1) I rode the ferris wheel with them. 2) I had my equipment strapped to me. 3) I was buckled in. 4) I was in the carriage by myself while Mike was on the ground shooting. 5) Yes, I was nervous with all of that equipment 100 feet up. :D

My favorite! :!: You guys know how much I love canvases… this one would make a great one. Jusssst sayin’…

Mikey’s fave :?:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!! :D Eric, you’re the best :)

If you could see my face here you’d see sheer terror. I was very nervous. Not because I’m scared of heights but because I’m clumsy and didn’t want to drop anything! My equipment was strapped on so well that it kept choking me… See the blond directly to my left? She’s looking at me like…. “betty, you caraaazy!”

What’s a Midwest fair without deep fried craziness. This looks absolutely disgusting to me… Eric and Mike of course HAD to try one.  Eric wasn’t a fan. Mike, however… he loves ANYTHING and everything chocolate. I just heard that at this year’s Indiana State Fair they have deep friend butter (fast forward to 2:06 to see people eating it). DEEP FRIED BUTTER?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???!!? And we wonder why Americans have a weight issue?!!? I’m so grossed out by the thought of that!! Please friends… tempted as you may be, resist the fried butter? On behalf of the healthy train? PLEASE?! BLEHHHH!

:!: + :?:

Debbie McMahonAugust 25, 2010 - 9:30 pm

I love these pictures so much! You captured Kate and Eric perfectly. The way they look at each other and their smiles are great. I cannot wait until the wedding to see what unforgettable pictures you will take. I think they look so good together, but then I am biased because I’m Kate’s mom. :)

KarissaAugust 19, 2010 - 1:18 pm

DEEP FRIED BUTTER!!!! We had that at the MN state fair last year. I didn’t eat it, but I assure you it was a hit. The chocolate covered bacon was probably the top seller last year though…ISH!

kello!August 19, 2010 - 12:42 am

we were at the state fair and were also grossed out by everything! have you seen the krispy kreme burgers? blehhh!

saraAugust 18, 2010 - 7:03 pm

I’m going with a young Phil Collins, but I guess I’m showing my age by saying that.

KateAugust 18, 2010 - 3:24 pm

Now I finally have pictures of this cute guy! Thank you for capturing us in this moment of our lives, the settings were perfect! I have a wall all ready for a canvas :)

jessAugust 18, 2010 - 1:59 pm

I have always wanted to do a shoot at a fair totally jealous! :)

April FosterAugust 18, 2010 - 11:36 am

The pictures on the rides are out of this world!

Angie JacksonAugust 17, 2010 - 8:33 am

amazingness!!

Colleen McMahonAugust 16, 2010 - 8:10 pm

I love them! I couldn’t wait to see what you came up with! Both of Kate and Eric’s personalities were captured perfectly. Especially the expressions they make! I am so excited to see what moments you can capture of my sister and my soon to be brother-in-law on October 2nd! See you soon!

Chrissie RaysorAugust 16, 2010 - 9:02 am

I just got all gag-y at the though of people eating deep fried butter. On the bright side, I’m all revved up to grab some people and head to a fair for some bobbi+mike inspired awesomeness. Our fair was here 2 weeks ago, but NO FERRIS WHEEL!! WTH? Just the ferris-wheel-like contraption that basically flips you upside down. No thank you.

kristen davisAugust 15, 2010 - 11:36 pm

these are absolutely beautiful! love them but miss you.

KelseaAugust 15, 2010 - 10:39 pm

I had a deep fried milky way at the Three Rivers Festival in FW this summer and it was delicious!! I was too scared to try the butter but I heard it was wonderful!!

Shelley FreckletonAugust 15, 2010 - 12:26 am

Oh Jeramy was just salivating over your pictures! ;D He was so jealous because he really has been wanting to shoot at one. The closest we’ve come is a couple of weeks ago when we snuck into the ferris wheel at “funland” (which meant stepping over a chain 12 inches off the ground), pulled the cover off one of the seats, and hitched a bride into it. FAB! Entering that picture into the county fair here in Idaho!! :D We love you guys! :D :D :D :D :D :D ….:D btw…that would TOTALLY be Jer riding the ferris wheel–they freak me out! Not only would I have all my equipment strapped to me, but I would probably tie myself to the seat!!! “I’ll shshhhh now”

TaraPantsAugust 15, 2010 - 12:04 am

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Katie you are a stunner! I can’t wait to see you on your wedding day and meet this wonderful man!! Bobbi and Mike these are SO fun!! Love them!!

HallyAugust 14, 2010 - 8:03 pm

Reading through the comments I have to say I agree with Gail, but I IMMEDIATELY saw that cutie patootie from Supernatural, Jeffery Dean Morgan. I think its the eyes. (Way to go Kate, he’s a cutie.)

AprilAugust 14, 2010 - 5:23 pm

I love love love this session! We were just at the Orange County fair and I too was appalled at the deep fried butter. We also had chocolate covered bacon. Uh. Ew. No thanks.

TashaAugust 14, 2010 - 2:40 pm

So in love with this session! Being from the midwest, I love me some county fair. Excellent.

KristinAugust 14, 2010 - 2:03 pm

LOVE them!!!! Love seeing their personalities come through! My favorite is the fourth one down – the black and white. Awesome!

Joan SziroveczAugust 14, 2010 - 12:12 pm

For all you sports fans–take a look at Derek Jeter, shortstop for the Yankees. Eric and Derek could be brothers they look so much alike. With Kate’s black hair, she looks like a young Liz Taylor. Of course I’m partial to Eric and Kate. They are family.
Aunt Joan

SandyAugust 14, 2010 - 9:18 am

OMG! I just saw this. You have been a busy little blogger! I couldn’t wait to see these and you didn’t disappoint. I love the fair photos! The ferris wheel ones are my favorites. Those and the corn dog bite. I would love to see a close up of your face in that picture of you and all of your equipment. You are such a trooper braving the County Fair AND the rides! Eric and Kate are going to love these! PS..who does Eric look like? I’ve never been able to pin point it, but I know he reminds me of somebody.

HeatherAugust 13, 2010 - 10:18 pm

As a blog stalker, just wanted to tell you Bobbi that I totally have a girl crush on you. The images you and Mike take speak for themselves. Your sense of humor, warm spirit and loving nature shine through in every post that you write. If you do a workshop or travel to Charlotte, NC, I am totally there! As you walk through life, know that your words touch people (and not in a creepy way :) and your images inspire!

Loving you guys!

We will have to take a family vacation there.

Angi DavisAugust 13, 2010 - 2:41 pm

Absolutely LOVING the fair shots! But I’m also in love with the shot of them lying on the brick patio/street…lovely!! And famous actor – no clue, but then again, I’m not good at that game. HA!

MattAugust 13, 2010 - 2:21 pm

nicoleAugust 13, 2010 - 1:54 pm

I’ve been dying to see these ever since Kate told me you guys were shooting at the fair!! Love them!

gailAugust 13, 2010 - 1:12 pm

I’m stumped on the famous person. Maybeeee Javier Bardiem? But he’s too wholesome and American good looking for that ;)

I am SOO loving the fair flair. You guys rocked that scene out and then some. I adore that setting.

And ewwww to the butter. That’s disgusting!

fotogenicoAugust 13, 2010 - 1:06 pm

love your images. wanted to say it long time ago.

JillaynaAugust 13, 2010 - 1:05 pm

You didn’t say what famous person you think he looks like!? I cant think of anything….
