addi+mmmiKe

Ryan took video of Addi looking at the photos on the blog. Prepare to have your heart melted into one zillion pieces. Ladies… hit play at your own risk and hold onto your ovaries. No, seriously. Consider yourself warned. :) This little lady LOVES her some Mike. Can’t say I blame her ;)

THEN… I remembered that Mike was taking video for just a bit and found THIS little gem!!! :) “standing on the books… standing on the books…”

And just for Addi, I found more photos of her beloved mmmiKe. hooray.

annnnnd… me… standing on the books looking a wee bit like cornholio. :) You may have noticed that I haven’t been putting photos of myself up from sessions lately. That’s because my clothes are too big for me and I think I look like shiz…. AKA, not feeling so great about myself ;) But, whatever… for Addison, I’d do anything :D

Thanks for watching friends… :) Hope your day is perfect!
bobbi+mike :!: + :?:

Angi DavisAugust 12, 2010 - 1:04 pm

“Standing on the books…standing on the books!” My son, Galvin, has already begun putting this to his beatbox sounds – I’ll try to get a video of that next. HA!

andrea+ryan+addison+baby girl

I’ve never loved a family session more than I love this one. Are they the best family photos I’ve ever taken? Probably not. But, do they have people in them that I love? Absolutely.

You see, I’m an only child and I’ve never really been around kids. Wait, that didn’t sound right. I mean… I’ve been around kids, but not just one… and not just one that I’ve grown super attached to… ever. Does that make sense?

For example, my best friend Corrie has a 2 year old son, Zachary… I see him every time I go to Kansas City. I love that kid because I love Corrie. Does he remember me when he sees me each time. No. Do I know what makes him laugh? No. Do I know what he’s learned this month? No. Do I live in Kansas City? No. Do I wish I these answers were all yes? YES!

Then there’s Addison. I see her often. She knows my name and loves to say it.  She reaches for me to hold her, and I do (if you know me, you KNOW how big of a deal this is).  I know how to make her giggle uncontrollably. I dance when she pee pee’s in the potty. According to Andrea she wakes up saying our names, “bobbi bobbi bobbi and mmmikkkkkke.” Have I ever experienced this kind of relationship with ANY other kid?! Not even close!

Addi makes my heart smile.

I’ve been beyond excited to show you these images… So, I’ll shush so you can see. :)

My view.

Mike’s. :) Addison was so fun to photograph. She added an entirely new element to a bobbi+mike family session. You see, Addi was very concerned with where we were at all times. I’d stand back to get a photo of the family and she wanted me closer. She’d put her hand out to me like… “Are you coming?! What’s taking you so long… Hurry up!” So, I shot most of the session with a wide angle lens so that I could be closer to her.

Like Momma, like daughter. See, they’re making the EXACT same face :)

Andrea’s body language is hilarious to me. “If you drop my baby, I will hurt you… but I am smiling anyway because I know Bobbi and Mike are taking my picture…”

AHHHHHHHH!!!!! SOOOO STINKING CUUUUUUTE!!!!!!

Love.

When we all go out in a group, people often assume that Addi’s my daughter. They look at me and say… “I SEE WHERE SHE GETS THAT RED HAIR!!!!” :D I usually just nod and say something like, “what can I say, we’re quite Irish!” Easier than explaining… :) Then, Andrea will usually respond with, “Ohhhh Bobbi & Ryan… so nice of you to invite your nanny along!” We think we’re funny. Maybe a bit inappropriate.. but, definitely funny. :D

My favorite :!: It’s the perfect photo of this family. So much love.

Uhm, whose idea was it to lay a pregnant lady down in a PARKING LOT?! Definitely not my smartest choice of the year. Still made for a cool photo or two :)

THENNNN… we finished up the session… AT A DINER!!!! I’ve been DYING to shoot in a diner and when we were brainstorming about the session, I suggested it. Ryan LOVED the idea and we made it happen :)   Here again, “Come on Bobbi! Why aren’t you hanging out with us back THERE?!”

IT’S MILKSHAKE TIME! If you look up “cute” in the dictionary, you’ll find this. I promise. Go look. Now.

HOT PREGNANT LADY ALERT… HOT PREGNANT LADY ALERT!!!!!!

Love. again. :)

GO GO GADGET FLEXIBLE

GO GO GADGET BACKWARDS ELBOWS & FINGERS!

Uhm… MELLLLLLLLT!!!!!!

:) How can you not adore her?!

So art director Ryan and I had a fun idea… Stand Addi on a stack of books. Easy enough, right?! …or so we thought.

She wanted absolutely nothing to do with it! So, what did we do?! They made standing on the books look like the funnest thing in the world to do. Here’s Ryan singing “standing on the boo-oooks, standing on the boo-oooks” while Andrea danced

Mike had to try it out himself… after all Ryan and Andrea made it look so fun! Still, no dice.

So, after much coercion here’s the pinnacle “standing on the books” moment… that lasted all of about 2 seconds. It clearly wasn’t as fun as mom and dad made it appear! She felt duped. I suppose I understand. Standing on books is kinda lame.

“Peace… I’ll show you what fun really is betties.”

We need a team name. Dontchya think? Confirmed!

:!: + :?:

AndreaAugust 11, 2010 - 9:44 pm

For the record…

Yes, I am slightly overprotective.
These photos capture us perfectly. Absolutely perfectly.
The sandals are Steve Madden.
Addi keeps demanding to see more pictures of Mike, Bobbi you better keep an eye on your man, somebody has a little crush :)
I love that the range of my Little Red’s expressions are captured here. I’m a bit partial, but isn’t she the cutest?
The jury is still out on the red hair- although we’ve ruled out the milkman.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words- bobbi+mike work their magic once again!

KatieAugust 11, 2010 - 8:16 pm

What I love about this shoot is that you can tell you are close to the family, there is this warmth that exudes from these pictures. You may not think they are your best technically, but something has to be said about pictures being the best simply because they have heart and soul. Beautiful as always!

carlyAugust 11, 2010 - 3:05 pm

Gosh… I remember the session you did when Addison was only a few months old and the photo of her in Andrea’s arms, pushing herself back and spreading her arms wide, like she just wanted to bask in the beautiful daylight… And I thought then, “That kid is magical!” And she still is! What a gorgeous family! So excited to see Baby #2 and how magical she will be as well! Once again, well done, guys! Beautiful work, as always!

Alison DAugust 11, 2010 - 2:36 pm

Photos I adore: The photo with Andrea’s body language (saw photo before your comment, and thought the same thing!), and then the next three after that. :) The one of them on the blanket that you liked Bobbi, and the diner one- ahhhhhhhhhh. So precious. And then….I get to the books. And then I lost it. Seriously….your commentary, the photos, priceless!! AND I LOVE the shot of her standing on them and her little face. I say it all the time, her face is edible. She is beyond precious. I love that she loves you guys so much. Now I’ll try to shut up, but that is one beautiful family, inside and out.

Bobbi, I don’t know Andrea & Ryan (or Addison) as well as you and Mike, but I do remember them from our Spirit of Sport days at IU. They’re totally awesome! I think this is one of your best family sessions … but for the same reason – it’s Andrea, Ryan, & Addi! I love looking at the blog and seeing familiar faces! They’re such a sweet couple, and Addi is so dang cute. I can’t wait to see pictures of baby girl when she arrives! Andrea – you picked out the CUTEST outfit for that little girl. The little rolled up jeans are my favorite! :D Also, I concur that diners have it going on.

This is definitely one of my favorite family sessions, like, ever.

And honestly? That face Addison is making on the stack of books? Makes it my favorite shot of the whole bunch.

And my favorite quote about family that comes to mind with this crew?

“You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.” — Bishop Desmond Tutu

Ain’t that the true? :)

ConnieAugust 11, 2010 - 3:42 am

Hi Bobbi! It’s Amanda on my mom’s account. Nice family pictures! :)

jessica+bobby

Bobby’s genuine smile is infectious.

And so is Jessica’s.  Yeah, if you’re doing the math… that’s a whole lotta infectious smiles going on. Thank heavens I have dimples to give me a bit of relief from all of the smiling.  PS. I made that up about the dimples… but it sounded good, right?! PPS. Just to clarify… I didn’t make up the part about HAVING dimples… I made up the part about the relief they gave me :D Okay. I’m not allowed to blog any more on such little sleep… I’m shushing now.

They chose to see each other before the ceremony. Here was their first sight. My view on the left, Mike’s on the right.

IT’S PICTURE TIIIIIME! When Jessica and Bobby met with us for the first time Jessica told us that she wanted to take it easy on her wedding day… as most of her bridesmaid experiences with photographers have been a bit hectic.  Well, I can’t say that I’m not guilty of the same thing. You see… on a wedding day, I’m a fast mover. A ridiculously fast mover. Don’t go assuming here… just because my legs are mutant short doesn’t mean they can’t MOOOOOVE! ;) Anyway… to force myself to slow down that day, I wore uncomfortable shoes during picture time. I know that sounds stupid… but I promise you… it’s the only thing that would have worked. On a wedding day, I go into auto pilot… LET’S GO GO GO! :)   So, yes… it worked… I’m a genius… with uhm… swollen feet… ;)

Oh, hello gorgeous bridesmaids :)   My view.

Mike’s :) Meet Lily… I think she wanted to be in the photo, too… ;)

OHHHH JESSICA… YOU ARE FUNNNNNY! ;)

…. Backstreet’s Back ALRIGHT!

Bobby+groomsmen… JUSSSSST in case you were thinking of putting out an album with some dope beats combined with wicked synchronized dancing… I’m 3 steps ahead of you…. here is your boy band album cover.  Yeah, you’re welcome for that. This one’s on me! PS. I’m officially getting old, it pained me to say “dope” & “wicked” WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!

I went a little OTT on the portraits. But, can you blame me?! :D They said, on numerous occasions, “the photos are a priority… and we want to make sure we have plenty of time!” And that you did! :D Thank you friends :) :) :)

My favorite :!:

My view…

Mike’s. He wins. No contest. Love this. His fave :?:

…an incredibly emotional/perfect prayer right before they walked down the aisle.

Jessica and Bobby chose to have more of a mingling reception (rather than a dancing/DJ reception). They incorporated many of the things most of us know as reception events into their ceremony. Fathers often give a toast… at this wedding, both of the fathers came up and gave their blessing. It was very cool!

My view, my view. ;) I’M LIKE LIGHTNING I’M SO FAST!

Finally… BLINNNNNG!

brides walk down the aisle: “On a Night Like This” -Dave Barnes

jessica+bobby

What was the most memorable moment of your day?
jess: The most memorable moment of the day for me was when we exchanged vows. There is something so real and so powerful about those promises and about that moment! I started to tear up, then Bobby made me laugh. :)
bobby: The moment that I’ll remember forever is when Jess walked into the room.  When the pianist started the intro for “On a Night Like This” and Jess appeared in the balcony, I suddenly realized that this was happening… This was not a rehearsal, this was not someone else’s wedding, THIS WAS REALLY HAPPENING!  I was awestruck and really couldn’t do anything other than smile the biggest smile I’ve ever smiled.

What was your favorite detail?
jess: The programs! They were a bit of a custom creation that Bobby and I put together between us (and Kinko’s). To give everyone more of an idea of who we are, we wrote our thoughts about all the wedding details in the program. It made the details of the day a little more personal, and now it’s something fun we can keep to remember the day, too.
bobby: My favorite detail was that Jess was there.  :-)

Any advice for future bride/grooms?
jess: Really, really love the person you’re marrying. And remember – that’s the whole reason for the wedding!!
bobby: Surround yourself with your close friends and your family and just lose yourself.  We didn’t leave room for stress or worry – instead we made room for family, fun and great memories!

Funniest memory from your wedding day?
jess: Um, trying to take off my huge slip in an elevator after the wedding, before the reception. (Apologies to the people getting off the elevator as I was getting on. If you were wearing that slip for 3 hours, you’d understand.)
bobby: We included the best man’s toast as a part of the ceremony.  I had no idea that my brother was going to take this opportunity to roast me.   He spent about 10 minutes getting his two cents in… he had the guests laughing so hard that they were falling out of their chairs!  Some of the guests are still talking about it…  Maybe he’s got a career in this?

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?
bobby: What makes it so special is that it was a once in a lifetime moment for us.  I wouldn’t change anything.  :-)

What was your favorite wedding purchase?
bobby: The honeymoon!
jess: bobbi+mike. :) We looooved being able to trust them to find the beauty in the day.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
jess: Fiji! He totally surprised me! I had no idea where we were going until we were at the ticket counter in the airport! It was such a great experience and EXACTLY what we needed.

Anything else you’d like to include?
jess: A huge thanks to Jessi Warner and the staff at the ArtsGarden for coordinating the details of the day!

I wanted to get a “Bobbi(y) squared” photo… it was my only request. :) Mike just HAPPENED to capture us RIGHT before our high five. Clearly I was REALLY excited about this. Afterall, it’s not every day I meet someone with my name! :)

bobbi+mike

our favorites: 1. Lilly the flower girl was one of the most adorable flower girls we’ve ever seen in action. “Lilly, you look like a princess!” “No… I’m PRETTIER than a princess!” 2. when Shaunquia and Lara rushed over to throw a do-rag on Jessica’s hair right before she put her dress on so that she didn’t mess up her hair. It was funny to me. Go back and look at the second photo down… see it? 3. Their first sight. 4. Walking Hobbling around downtown with the wedding party taking pictures. 5. Turning an alarm on on my iPhone so that I didn’t go over on my time limit. GENIUS! Why didn’t I think of this sooner?! 6. Taking photos of Bobby and Jessica… so in love… :) 7. Their ceremony. Every second. 8. Their fathers’ blessing during the ceremony. 9. Watching Bobby try to hide himself wiping a tear. Too bad so sad it’s captured by me FOREVER. ;) You’re welcome. :D 9. The hilarity that happened in our unboxed booth. People were trying to guess where they were going on their honeymoon with funny little notes on our new unboxed chalkboards. (No one knew except Bobby. :) ) 10. Finally, taking our “Bobbi(y) squared” photo :)

Thank you for asking us to share in such a perfect day.

Much love friends!

Please pay no mind to the red haired speedster that appears to be just a blur in front of the bride and groom…. man oh man… that girl is clearly FAST MOVER! She must be wearing comfortable shoes ;) Okay, REALLY shushing this time.

Beautiful couple! The bridesmaids are wearing the shoes I wore on my wedding day!! Love them! I really like the image against the white-ish wall. Lots of sass coming from the bride – VERY cute! AND WOWZA BOBBI – if you get much smaller you’re body won’t be able to handle all that personality I love so much! You’re lookin’ HOT girl!

I’m a blog stalker here… :) Seriously, if I won the lottery, I’d marry my husband again just to have you two shoot the wedding. Love, love, love your work (and your personalities!).

bobbiAugust 10, 2010 - 2:27 am

brad, yes… it’s a new suit. HOT TAMALE!!!!! and wow to that compliment. Thank you friend!

BradAugust 10, 2010 - 2:10 am

Is that a new suit Mike? I’ve only ever seen the black one. Also, since I never mention it; I always enjoy the graphic (right word?) quality of your photos. Lots of strong lines and interesting shapes yet not at the expense of the people in the photo – each complements the other.

Cheers!
Brad

oneshotbeyondAugust 10, 2010 - 1:21 am

beautiful photographs and Bobbi you are looking so slim in that last photo! Nice work!!!

Lynn@ C+LAugust 10, 2010 - 12:57 am

Love your commentary almost as much as the images! You should always blog on no sleep :) Gorgeous portraits especially those by the brick wall – stylized but still full of real emotion, . And love the blurred walk down the street shot – so evocative!

RachaelAugust 10, 2010 - 12:43 am

Okay, there is never a shot of yours I don’t love…but the giant wide wall shots are always so awesome! I think it’s cool you can manage to find a huge awesome wall most anywhere! Gorgeous as always :)

bobbiAugust 10, 2010 - 12:15 am

GOOOOOOD question Erica! ;) And yes, absolutely right, beautiful people both inside and out. :)

EricaAugust 10, 2010 - 12:11 am

My goodness, you’re like lightning!! How did they keep up? Great photographs, though :) What beautiful people!

bobbiAugust 10, 2010 - 12:11 am

Thanks Brit! Got a haircut a few days after this (had some pieces that were in BAD shape) and I’m NOT a fan. bobbi+layers+symmetrical=soccer mom. :(

BritAugust 10, 2010 - 12:08 am

Fantastic photos! And, man, Bobbi is your hair getting long! It’s gorgeous!

healthy train 8.

You must begin to think of yourself as becoming the person you want to be.

-David Viscott

So, I gained. just a bit… but it was a gain. Argh. 4.66% lost since April, 2010.

Then I remembered…

Kristen told me that I may be gaining in the near term as I’ve been doing some pretty major weight training for the past month. She was right.

So, I decided to take my measurements… even though I’d JUST taken them 2 weeks ago. What the hell… what do I have to lose?!

In just two weeks I’ve lost .25 inch on my upper arm and .5 inch on my waist… I mean… for just two weeks, that is not bad… ESPECIALLY given the fact that I’ve GAINED.  Are you following me here? I’m having a hard time explaining this.

My point is this… DO NOT put all of your faith in the scale… there are so many factors that affect that number.

Have you fully emptied your bladder?
Did you go out to eat last night and have too much salt on your chicken? (too much sodium causes water retention)
Are you weight training?
Are you poo-pooing regularly?
Is it your time of the month?
Are you taking prescription meds?
Do you have a sunburn? (another cause of water retention)

Gaining two pounds on occasion is no biggie… if it’s happening every week then maybe you need to adjust fire.

Hope you all listened to me in the beginning and took your measurements ;)

Let’s make it a goal not to be so hard on ourselves, k?  Are you, overall, moving in the right direction? Yes. It’s allllll about the long term, right? RIGHT!

Speaking of long term and measurements…. Since October, 2008 here are my inches lost:

Upper Arm: 3.25″
Chest: 4.5″
Waist: 6.5″
Hips: 5.25″
Upper thigh: 5″ (this has been the biggest change to me)

TOTAL: 24.5″

Very proud of that.

Current top five six:

Jill Pollitt       19.3%
Devan Whitson     15.35%
Michelle Hunley    11.3%
Chris Rivera 11.2%
Jessica Harrison   10%
Kelly Ritter  9.9%

To those on the train, be sure to weigh in via the Google doc! :D

A few quick reminders:

  • Next official weigh in is August 20th.
  • If you’re a twitterer, be sure to add the hashtag #healthytrain to your HT tweet.
  • Join  “bobbi’s healthy train” group on Facebook… ANYONE can join… not just the people with the before pics. My trainer is an admin … so if you have fitness questions, ask ‘em there!  Dane is also an admin, so if you have questions about diet/need motivation… he’s the guy to talk to. We’d love to have you… :D
  • You don’t have to be officially competing to participate.
  • Finale date is October 29th.

Love to you blog readers! :)

~bobbi :!:

PS. I bought a bathing suit for the first time since my honeymoon. Regardless of my weight loss… I’m having a near anxiety attack at the thought of wearing it in public. Wish me luck friends. EEEEKS!

YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION BOBBI! I can’t believe all those inches lost especially since I met you in October of 2008 and you were adorable then and adorable now! The fact that you’re sharing all of this great information regarding being healthy and (especially) what can make you hold weight just shows how awesome you are! Okay, it’s starting to sounds like I’m sucking up or blowing smoke up your ass…but I’m not! I promise! XOXO

Jodi PfunderAugust 10, 2010 - 10:50 am

Sorry I haven’t been weighing in — I’m still here! I was on vacation and didn’t have a scale — But I just got home and weighed in :) Thanks for the motivation Bobbi!

Jill PAugust 6, 2010 - 10:55 pm

13 more pounds to my GOAL!!! =)

StephanieAugust 6, 2010 - 1:01 pm

I just wanted to add, that if you start a new or more intense exercise routine, your body tends to retain water for a couple weeks after the start of the new regimine. It’s kind of like, “Whoa! What are you doing to me?! This is way stressful! I’m sweating all the time, I’m totally keeping this water!” But after 2-3 weeks it will release, so you may see a few extra pounds on the scale after the first couple days/week of the routine, but it’ll melt right off in no time.

Anna McClaryAugust 6, 2010 - 10:59 am

I had been pretty bummed that after my first pounds lost I hadn’t really shed much more. However, when purchasing a dress for my brother’s wedding I kept having to go down two sizes (to a size I don’t think I’ve ever been). I figured it was just the store. However, I went bridesmaid dress shopping the next week and was fully prepared for the bridal store sizing and prepared to go up a size, only to get to go down again!

Hannah TaylorAugust 6, 2010 - 10:38 am

I am so happy for you!!! My weight has changed a lot in the last year and a half and it is so good to hear of your success!! I’m not even on the healthy train but reading your post was what I needed to hear. Thanks!

courtneyAugust 6, 2010 - 10:34 am

YEAH!!! GO KELLY!!! :) I know what you mean about not judging based on the scale. I feel like my 6 pounds loss is not a lot, but my inches lost has been pretty significant. 8.5 inches in the last month! :) I’m stoked. Can’t wait to see where this road takes me.
