nicole greenAugust 6, 2010 - 9:47 am

awwww!! yay for them! :) ryan’s the best!

TashaAugust 6, 2010 - 9:13 am

Is it weird that I feel like I know Andrea and Ryan just from this blog? Bobbi and Mike, I love your relationship with this family. Knowing them the way you do puts all their photos on this whole other level. I’ll never forget seeing their engagement session on the ByBobbi blog and knowing that day that I HAD to book you for my wedding too! I have loved seeing you continue to photograph their family as they have evolved and grown. What a beautiful daughter. Seriously. (and shoutout to that picture of Andrea nursing when Addi was a baby…amazingness). I can’t wait to see more of this family, hopefully for years to come. Beautiful.
ps…I think Elijah has a crush on Addi. He is sitting on my lap and when he saw the rusty car picture with her in it, he giggled. He goes for the older women.

Stephanie StewartAugust 6, 2010 - 9:11 am

Adorable! Can’t wait to see more!

John SharpeAugust 6, 2010 - 8:49 am

Love seeing these two photos one next to the other! Awesome!

RyanAugust 6, 2010 - 6:58 am

I’m no wordsmith like the rest of you (remember, I draw pictures for a living). So I’ll try to knock this out in bullet form.

1. Gail – I’m not even going to attempt to explain that. I would flatly deny it but I think there may be photographic evidence.

2. Re: BOBBI STUDIO logo – um I have a whole packet of promo materials from back then. Don’t you worry, I’ll bring it out of the vault at just the right time some point in the future.

3. Andrea – School must be starting soon b/c you are in all out analysis mode, talking about symbolism and what not. Which really means, I was thinking the same thing, just wasn’t smart enough to articulate it.

4. My Little Red Headed Love Nugget – You are so damn cute. Good thing you look just like your mama.

5. Mike and Mike’s Little Red Headed Love Nugget – Many thanks for the sincerity of your friendship. We all float through life existing in too many surface level relationships – fearful of the repercussions of being ourselves or sharing what we really think (stay with me, channeling Jesh here). Not ’round here, no time for that game. From the moment you guys walk in to the 45 minute dance that is trying to leave, it is 100% real all the time. And for that we love you.

p.s. Mike I’m down for that blowing shit up machismo movie right after I finish sketching in my moleksin while sipping grande double mochachino americano frappachino – w/ skim milk. We’re complicated people.

bobbiAugust 5, 2010 - 9:47 pm

wow Mike… I couldn’t have said it more perfectly if I tried. Oh wait… I did try… you win. :)

+mikeAugust 5, 2010 - 9:40 pm

I think Bobbi nailed it. However, I’ll swing the hammer a few more times just to make sure.

I like how real you guys are, I like how you think, I admire how you parent, and I appreciate your friendship and hospitality.

…and I love that you’ll let me philosophize and ramble on about the world in general. :)

OK, cheesetastic moment over. Ryan, when are we going to go see a blow-shit-up movie again?

AndreaAugust 5, 2010 - 9:19 pm

Thanks a thousand times over for this- not just the well-wishes but for capturing all of our milestones over these past four years. As an English teacher, you know I’m all about the symbolism each of these photos holds. From us just starting out our new lives as urban dwellers in the big city to our family around a trusty worn vehicle, both images capture our mindsets and personalities as we sit on the cusp of new adventures. And truth be told, we couldn’t even vote you out of the family at this point, Addi wouldn’t stand for it. I mean, making it into the bedtime prayers kinda seals the deal.

Sarah DanaherAugust 5, 2010 - 8:55 pm

Holy cow, cannot believe how adorable that child is.

jess@studio3zAugust 5, 2010 - 8:47 pm

Ryan, Andrea and Addy, you guys are adorable and I can’t wait to see the newest little one. :) These four years have treated you guys VERY well! Happy Anniversary!

SarahAugust 5, 2010 - 8:13 pm

precious!!!

gailAugust 5, 2010 - 8:04 pm

OMG. That kid is a DOLL BABY.

And Ryan, nice feet. You two Andrea, but you know, I did have an unofficial wedding ceremony where my big toe married your husband’s big toe, so I’m partial to his. I’ll let him explain ;)

PS – HOT SANDALS!!!

michelleAugust 5, 2010 - 7:12 pm

Adorable! :)

amanda falesAugust 5, 2010 - 7:01 pm

i absolutely love. period. :)

meredith+jake

Meet the ridiculously awesome duo of Meredith and Jake… their session was full of win. You’ll see… :)

When brainstorming with our couples before their session we like to get a feel for who they are, what they want and what they don’t want. Here’s what we knew before we went scouting.  1) they didn’t want urban. 2) Meredith was wearing a dress and Jake was wearing a tie… so, for us, that took tall grass/fields out of the equation. 3) Meredith has a 50’s vibe. 6) Jake is a ridiculously talented chef (more on this later). 7) they’re hilarious, in love and full of personality.

Okay, recap… no urban, no grassy fields. What’s left?! So… off we went!

We found an old farm with a rusted out tractor. WIN!

On said farm was also a collapsed barn. When we got into the barn he said it reminded him of France. You see, Jake trained for chef-dom there. (among many other places). WIN!

PS. I know that chef-dom isn’t a word… but I don’t know what else to call it. :)

My view.

Mike’s :)

Oh, right next to the old barn was a soybean field. :D I mean, what chef doesn’t like a good farm?! He was impressed :) WIN!

They laugh… a lot. I like that… a lot.

As we were walking through this soybean field Meredith said, “whew… it’s like a carwash of the inner thighs!” I about peed my pants. Meredith might be one of the most quotable people I’ve met. Time to start a “sh*tmeredithsays” twitter account! :D

THENNNNN… we found an airport hanger with vintage airplanes! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! They fit PERFECTLY with Meredith’s 50’s vibe. WIN WIN WIN!

Meredith, you’re stunning. Seriously, GORGEOUS! After I took this I looked at Jake and said… “you’re welcome for the photo I just took!” ;)

Oh yes… for you aviation buffs out there… your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you… those are airplanes from WWII. Uhm, I know I’m getting annoying but AYKM?! WINNNNNN!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what it is about this image… but when I switched it to B&W it took my breath away. I know I know… Cheesetown, USA… but I love this image. I want one just like it… but subtract Meredith and Jake… add Bobbi and Mike. Or… just add Bobbi and Mike TO Meredith and Jake… Then it’d a a WHOLE lotta love in one photo :D My favorite :!:

Nothing like hanging out under airplane wings catchin’ some morning breezes!

Finally… we did some cooking :D When we VERY first met Meredith and Jake…. Jake was telling me about his chef-dom… I said… “OOH! We should take your engagement photos in a kitchen… cooking!”  So, that’s what we did. :D

“Jake likes to cook and I like to eat… so it works!” -another famous Meredith line.

You see, Jake is very laid back, very funny and very real… you almost forget that he’s this ridiculously amazing sought after chef. By amazing I mean… I asked him at the end of our session what his greatest accomplishment to date was and he said, “being named a best chef under 30 by “Food and Wine magazine” OHHHH… IT’S NOTHING… JUST THE BEST CHEF UNDER 30 BY FOOD & WINE MAGAZINE??!?! ARE YOU KIDDDDING ME?!!?!  Yeah, kind of a big deal. WHEW! Oh, and he cooked for us a few months ago… I gave him the “Best Chef in the History of the World” award by Bobbi. Beat that Food and Wine! YOU DON’T SCARE MEEEE!!!!! BTW, Mike’s fave :?:

richAugust 4, 2010 - 11:28 am

Holy sweet jumping jesus on pogo stick that’s a great shoot!!!

kristen, take 2.

By now, most of you know Kristen…. and if you don’t, a quick summary. Kristen’s been my personal trainer for two years. She’s been the main support system for my personal healthy train. Without her, I genuinely don’t think I’d be where I am today with the weight loss. Strike that… I know I wouldn’t be…. and no… not just because she works me out… but because she genuinely cares about me.

Remember the Annie photoshoot? Here’s an excerpt from that blog entry

You see, a couple of times a year I like to photograph my girlfriends… all by myself… just because :) For me, it’s relaxing, ridiculously inspiring, and  REALLY fun. This is going to sound cheesy… but whatever… it’s MY blog and I can do what I want! ;) After Annie’s session, I was on a serious life high for two days.  For some reason, this session was a bit different than other sessions I’ve shot by myself. It’s just SUCH a great feeling to go out with a camera, zero expectations, talk about life, giggle like school girls, get to know each other on a deeper level… oh and take beautiful photos. I LOVE seeing my friends through my lens. As a matter of fact, that night I made a list of all of the women in my life that I’d like to photograph…. so, this session was the start of a personal little project, just for me. Yeah yeah yeah, okay… cheesefest over… back to regularly scheduled “AYKM’s” ;)

So, that night I made it a personal mission… to photograph all of the women in my life. Then… I made a list.  A list that consisted of family and friends. Family who have shaped who I am and my friends who I love.

Kristen was, of course, on that list. She’s become one of my best friends… I share more with her than I do almost anyone. :)

This time, I went into this project with more of a mission than I did with Annie’s shoot. I asked Kristen to REALLY think. “Someday, when you’re grand kids see these photos of you, at 24 years old, who will they see?” I wanted to take a photo of who Kristen is… not just what she looks like.  Well, that’s always my goal with any photo shoot… but, whatever… you get the idea, right?

Give me five words that describe you. “passionate. determined. strong. goofy. loving.” (more on this at the end)

With that in mind… along with what I already know of Kristen… we went to work. :)

When we hopped right over that hill… Kristen, Meredith (her best friend) and I saw the skyline and almost in sync, “wowwwwww……” Shooting this series on the hill… I knew, JUST KNEW, that I nailed this project. Here’s the Kristen no one really sees. She’s so outgoing and loud that most think she’s crazy and full of energy all of the time.  I happen to know differently… only because she’s told me :) Meredith and I were just in awe of Kristen in this moment. We were kinda speechless… which from either of us… is quite rare.  Meredith kept saying, “I’m just so proud of you…”

That one on the right… when she saw it she said with a huge smile, “Why my mom sees that she’ll say ‘that’s SOOO Kristen!”

A very big part of her life…. her friends. Here’s Meredith :D She drove in from Kentucky to be a part of this.

Kristen, you’re stunning, k?

I would SO love to have a photo like this with my best friend.  Color me jealous.

In that one on the left… HELLOOOOO DICK DAVIS! AKA, dad. To me, you look SO much like him there!

Here’s where Kristen and I are quite alike. Kristen doesn’t know how to do anything if it’s not 100%. She’s intense :D I say jump and she turns into a spaztastic Tyra Banks America’s Next Top Model. For that reason, I adore her. It’s one of my favorite Kristen traits :)

I asked Kristen a few questions…

Describe yourself in five words:

I asked a few people in my life to see what others would describe me as… here were their answers

Dick Davis (dad): dedicated, loving, intelligent, magnanimous :) , playful
Diane Miller (coworker):
determined, outgoing, faithful, beautiful, awesome
Meredith Johns (best friend):
compassionate, spontaneous, determined, vivacious, beautiful
Lauren Lotz (a sorority friend):
caring, enthusiastic, beautiful, smart, amazing
Zach Bobak (a new friend):
beautiful, happy, successful, goal-oriented, determined

This showed me is who I truly am in these people’s eyes.  But how do I feel?  Who am I?

passionate. You (Bobbi) say intense.  Everything I do, I put 100% of myself into, whether it is training someone, loving someone, or training for a triathlon.

determined. If I set a goal for myself, I go for it full force.  I continue to push myself outside of my comfort zone to see how far I can go.

strong. I have the love and support of my friends and family to do things I never thought possible.  All of the challenges (both imposed by me, and dished to me), I have learned and become stronger.

goofy. I love asking random questions and just having fun.

loving. People I care about I love with all my heart.  I only want the best for them.  You may describe this as people pleasing.  My family, I would do anything for them.  My friends I would do anything for them.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself in 5 years, not in one location, but a place in my life.  I am newly married, established as an occupational therapist, changing people’s lives by the love and compassion I put into working with them. I may have a kid, I may not.  I continue to compete in triathlons with the same passion and drive I have currently.  I hope to impact my family, friends, and clients by my enthusiastic personality, and desire to be challenged.  I hope this still motivates people in 5 years as it does now.

What’s your favorite color?

um… for the session I only wore pink; pink shirt, pink dress, pink sports bra.  I was shopping for underwear yesterday and I kept picking up pink ones. So, I’d say pink. This was a TOTALLY sarcastic question because yes… all three of her outfits were pink. Made me laugh :D

Anything you want to say about the session?

The session was so much fun.  I am so glad I was able to do this with the people I love so much and who have helped shape the person I am today.  This just shows how much love I have in my life.  I have grown so much in the past two years, and become the strong, independent woman I am today.

Meredith is my best friend, and I am so blessed to have her in my life.  She sent me an email after (Bobbi) posted that (yoga) photo on Facebook; it instantly brought tears to my eyes.  Here is what she wrote:

“Its funny how much things have changed in just the past two years of being out of college and how much we have grown.  Looking at the picture of you yesterday made me so proud of all that you have accomplished on your own – your job, grad school, the mini, the triathlons, the classes that you’ve taught, etc.”

It just confirms all the tears, and the stress, and the pushing was worth it, and extremely rewarding.

bobbi’s turn…

my five words to describe Kristen?
ambitious, confident, energetic, generous, determined

Kristen, have an amazing time in North Carolina. Go show that Master’s degree who’s boss!

Thank you for touching my life in such an amazing way. I’ll miss you more than you realize. wow, writing that brought on the tears. wow. standby. okay, back. whew.

If I were getting married next month and had to pick my bridesmaids… you’d be one. :)

Love to you friend.

~bobbi

*I do this exercise often… the “if I were getting married next month who would be in my wedding party?” I do it so that I make sure that I’m focusing my attention on the people who I love the most. Each one of mine is on this list. :) You should try it.

Love this. BIG time!

:!: + :?:

MeredithAugust 4, 2010 - 11:51 am

I love, love, love these! What an awesome day spent with awesome people …. You rock, Bobbi! I’m so grateful that the roommate selection process worked out for the best my freshman year of college and that Kristen remained my roommate / best friend from that point on!

Amy (Smith)August 3, 2010 - 8:23 pm

I miss you all and was so excited to see you grace this amazing blog.

KareJuly 31, 2010 - 1:58 pm

What a fab idea – the women in our lives are so important to each of us; how great for you to recognize that and realize they need to be documented. And then go and actually do it. Good for you. I’m feeling the need to borrow this most excellent idea, k? K.

Christine PobkeJuly 31, 2010 - 10:53 am

fan-freaking-tastic. and so so incredibly inspiring. you go bobbi!!! :) and kristen!! :)

Maya LaurentJuly 31, 2010 - 9:41 am

Rachel YatesJuly 30, 2010 - 8:00 pm

This was a beautiful and inspiring post! Thank you so much for sharing it. What a gift (for both Bobbi and Kristen) to be able to capture so much of the complexity of a person’s essence within a photograph… This is wonderful!!! LOVE!!!!

KimJuly 30, 2010 - 4:50 pm

Love! I can imagine someone pulling these photos out of an album and talking about how stunning their grandmother/aunt/mother (whatever you would be at that point) is and always has been.

Stephanie StewartJuly 30, 2010 - 2:09 pm

Wow! This is such an amazing post, tears in my eyes and I’ve never met either of you (but would absolutely love to!)!!! Amazing women, amazing photos, amazing project. Thank you so much for sharing!

Pam

terri davis (mom)July 30, 2010 - 10:53 am

Kristen DavisJuly 30, 2010 - 9:19 am

Okay, now that I have words. This was an amazing blog because it made me realize how hard I worked the past two years on me. I feel like the sky is the limit, and nothing can stop me now. You perfectly captured who I am today, and what I want to remember about my early twenties!

gailJuly 30, 2010 - 9:12 am

You are such an awesome friend to take your time and talent to showcase the talent of someone so dear to you.

So Kristen’s moving? :( Something tells me you two will stay in touch. Maybe she can be your Tracy Anderson to you being Gwyneth. You know, Skype training sessions, that kind of thing?

OMG, isn’t it ridiculous I know this much about celebrities’ lives? How does Nick put UP with me? hahaha

PS – Kristen, you are GORGEOUS.

Kristen DavisJuly 30, 2010 - 9:10 am

I had tears in my eyes. Thank you so much. I am speechless! Tears in my eyes!

Mikey’s view… and his favorite :?:

stinking cuuuuute!

Canvas? Yes… definitely!

Rosie.

Ozzy.
